Treatment and Recovery

It is essential to find the drug and alcohol rehab that will be most effective at healing the root causes of addiction. To overcome addiction, each aspect of an individual must be treated. Chronic substance abusers have many issues in need of healing. Effective drug rehabilitation programs treat the whole person so they can develop healthy habits, behaviors, life-skills and acquire positive paradigm changes foundational for personal growth and recovery. So for an addict to recover their physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual development should be a continual process.

Without a solid plan for ongoing recovery with support groups such as the Christian church or ministries, 12 step programs (Narcotics Anonymous/Alcoholics Anonymous) or Celebrate Recovery the chances of lasting sobriety are minimal. Anyone who thinks they are cured upon leaving drug rehab without any further need of support is mistaken. In most cases every area needs changing, such as people, places and things. Because you cannot go around the same places with the same people or do the same things especially early in recovery. If you play with fire you’ll probably get burned. Therefore a plan for sober living and life after rehab is a must.

How can I tell if myself or loved one is addicted to drugs or alcohol?
If a person has a compulsion to use drugs or alcohol. Also despite repeated negative consequences he or she continues to use drugs or alcohol.  How to identify if a loved one in on drugs. Or if you yourself think you may be addicted but aren't sure visit is rehab right for you?

How will we know if drug rehabilitation is needed?
If you or a loved one has progressed through stages of drug use, abuse or drug addiction, then most certainly a drug rehabilitation program will be necessary for successful and lasting recovery.

Knowing what to do first: The first step is admit there is a problem and then be willing to get help. If the addicted is a family member and does not want help then the first step is tough love or intervention. Also you can search for the type of rehab help needed for when they finally do come around. This way you'll have a good head start on things. because at that point you might only have a small window of opportunity before the addict changes his or her mind.

If the addict is willing to attend rehabilitation but does not seem serious can the drug treatment work? Yes it is common for a addict to not want to enter a drug rehab. As miserable and unmanageable as an addict's life may become rehab is out of their comfort zone. Most users will avoid drug treatment as long as possible. Usually not until the pain and problems associated with the drug use outweigh the perceived benefits. But for many individuals that day might never come and if the family doesn't get tough and intervene the chemically dependent individual may wind up in jail or die as a result of alcohol and/or drug abuse.

Will drug detoxification be needed? What kind of detoxification method should be used? It depends on the substance the addict is addicted to. Opiate addictions such as heroinOxycontin, and other synthetic-morphine based pain medications will require some form of drug detoxification in almost all cases. Although withdrawal symptoms of opiate addiction are not usually life threatening the pain from cold turkey withdrawals (just stopping with no detoxification and no medical assistance) are extremely unbearable and can lasts longer than a week. The worst of the withdrawals are usually within the first five days but the misery doesn't end there. Unfortunately with morphine derivatives non-medical detox methods are usually unsuccessful, because opiate withdrawal symptoms are so anguishing that an addict will go to great lengths to avoid them. Therefore they often give-up before they are through the withdrawals. Consequently, lying, cheating, stealing and manipulating their family and friends are not uncommon behavior. So it is important to know the best options for drug detoxification and treatment. Also It is also important to know that medical detox by itself doesn't work without rehabilitation afterwards. It typically takes rehab and detox to recover from drug addiction. The withdrawals from an addiction to alcohol, barbiturates (Phenobarbital), or minor-tranquilizers such as Xanax, Valium, Clonipin, and Adivan are life threatening and require medical detoxification followed by an alcohol rehab or drug rehabilitation.

Addictions to drugs such as methamphetamine (speed, crystal meth, crank, ice), LSDPCPecstasy and marijuana do not generally require medical-detox, because the physical withdrawals are much less severe. It is important to understand that even though the symptoms of withdrawal aren’t as extreme, drugs such as cocaine, crack, and methamphetamine are very addictive. Being addicted to these drugs is very serious.
